The Catalina 425 was an all-new design that assumes the position in the Catalina line held by the legendary Catalina 42. The 425 incorporates all the valued hallmark Catalina features; a functional spacious cockpit, a comfortable, carefully detailed interior and builds on these to create a modern and practical cruiser.

The cockpit area is oversized, and includes twin helms on performance pedestals with pre-stretched cables, with easy and seated access to navigation, helm controls, and sail controls. Forward of the helm are two large seats with high backrests. Age Gap is equipped with fitted cockpit cushions for comfort onboard. On the starboard side, the bench seat opens up to create a sun lounging space. Age Gap has an extensive canvas package in matching gray, including bimini, dodger, and connector, with protective bimini shades to provide full sun coverage. A centerline cocpkit table with folded leaves and storage provides a relaxing space for exterior dining. At the aft, Age Gap has a full width arch complete with solar panels and pulleys for the dinghy and outboard motor. Below the arch is the fitted transom swim platform with fold down ladder, and dedicated storage for safety equipment.

The hull features six large fixed ports recessed into the hull for lots of light and visibility. A self-tacking jib and jib traveler are standard, and main and jib sheets are lead to the helm for efficient short-handed sailing. Age Gaps benefits from an electric mainsail winch. The weather decks are wide and uncluttered for ease of movement, with diamond gray non-skid. At the bow, a large anchor and protective anchor locker provides ample storage space and protects the windlass. Age Gap also benefits from a mounted life raft on the foredeck covered with matching canvas.

Age Gap boasts a full electronics suite including i70 wind, speed, and depth, twin Axiom 9s on Navpods, AIS700, Radar, EV400 sail pilot system, and additional Standard Horizon VHF fitted down below.

Down below, the saloon area is open and engaging, with upgraded ultra leather cream upholstery. Large U shape seating is on the portside with folding wooden leaf table. Age Gap also benefits from a large salon TV set, speakers, and air circulation fans.

The forward owner’s cabin features a large centerline berth with an elevating adjustable mattress, and storage below the berth, in a large hanging locker, and a vanity with mirror and seat. A separate TV set is mounted int he owner's cabin. The owner's en-suite bathroom includes separate shower, electric heads, sink, vanity and large storage cupboard behind the mirror.

There are starboard and port aft cabins; the latter is primarily used as a storage cabin with a gull wing cockpit hatch, but is easily converted into a cabin. This "garage" room provides side access to the engine, generator, and systems, and also houses the installed Rainman watermaker, inverter, and Victron system.  In addition to providing extra storage, with on deck access, a large hanging locker can be used when the cabin is used for accommodation. Converting into a berth is simple, with an articulating board. When folded, this allows side access to the systems from a seated position. A central accessible mechanical space provides excellent access to primary engine, generator, water heater and air conditioners, which simplifies maintenance and inspections necessary for systems reliability. Age Gap benefits from being fitted with the generator option, and reverse cycle air conditioning throughout.

The main guest cabin is on the starboard side, and features a large double / Queen berth with dedicated hanging locker, side storage, and ventilation with side hatch. It also has access to the aft bathroom on an en-suite basis. This bathroom again includes separate shower, head and sink with vanity unit.

The galley is in a protective U-shape and is aft and adjacent to the companionway steps. It includes a propane stove with oven on gimbals, microwave, fridge and freezer, an above counter ice-maker, and double sink with splash back. Storage is both above and below the counter-top.

Unique design features include a watertight StrikeZone™ collision bulkhead forward; DeepDefense™ rudder system for failsafe steering and a T-Beam MastStep™ structure, with all the benefits of a deckstepped mast and the strength of a keel-stepped mast. The SecureSocket™ mast support/chainplate system facilitates perfect load resolution and watertight integrity. Knitted fabrics create a stronger laminate without additional weight. Catalina’s trademark lead keels absorb impact for safety and require less maintenance than other materials.
